While originally an inland links style course, today it is a picturesque course, with some holes bordering the mighty Waikato River. This gives the St Andrews course a very tranquil and relaxed setting. None more so than the challenging par 5 fourth hole. The short dogleg gives the player many options on the drive and second shot, but the river is always lurking to catch the wayward shot. The signature hold would have to be the par 3, 18th. While protected by bunkers surrounding the green that catch any shot lacking in direction and distance, it’s the 2 metre deep front bunker that’s most intimidating. The St Andrews Golf Course is a great test for golfers of all abilities having hosted many top amateur and professional events.
